Siouxon Creek

Hiked the Siouxon Creek trail yesterday from the road closure to the second junction with Horseshoe Ridge, just past Wildcat Falls. The road is gated at the junction of 57 and 5701 and requires walking the 5701 road 0.7 miles to the West Siouxon TH (I think this is signed the Upper Siouxon TH, but t...

Re: South Burnt Lake Trailhead Road Conditions

I believe we were about 1.5 miles from the trailhead where we turned around.

Retired Jerry, I think you are referring to the North Burnt Lake Trailhead by Lost Creek. I drove that road about a week ago. It was in far better shape than the road with the puddle to the South Burnt Lake TH. :(

Re: South Burnt Lake Trailhead Road Conditions

Yes, we noticed the "shortcut", although we didn't know it was a shortcut. Didn't even consider driving up it. We used it to turn around.

South Burnt Lake Trailhead Road Conditions

Attempted to hike the Zigzag Mountain Loop today, but didn't make it up the road. We drove (Subaru Outback) through a couple of puddles of water but turned back at this one. IMG_0194.JPG Seemed a bit too deep and too muddy (vs. rocky). Plus, it was forecast to rain today, so we assumed the road cond...

Appaloosa Trail

Checked out the new Appaloosa Trail in the WA DNR Yacolt Burn, which was much more pleasant than I expected. I had low expectations because the area was previously clear-cut and it follows roads in sections. But, much of it was through scenic forest, the trail was in good condition and it took me to...

Tarbell Trail Closure

From the DNR Website : "Recreation alert: Beginning Oct. 1 the Tarbell Trail will be closed to through traffic and ac...

Placid Lake Loop

The Placid Lake Loop was stunning with fall colors in the numerous meadows along this route. The abandoned section from Chenamus Lake to the Cascade Crest Trail was relatively easy to follow. We lost the trail briefly at a meadow and by downed trees but it wasn't hard to find again. There is quite a...

Re: Green lakes post-permit system

We hiked the Broken Top loop at the beginning of August and passed through Green Lakes on a weekday at about 10 am. Less than half the camp sites appeared to be occupied.

Re: Mt Mitchell and Black Hole Falls

Yes, I think the cuts were from a chain saw. Thanks for the suggestion, I emailed WA DNR about the trees, received a response indicating they would pass the info to the right person.
