Re: Outdoor Recreation Bill

Thank you for posting about this bill. I quickly scanned through the bill and unfortunately, don't see much benefit to hikers. There is one line about "shall increase opportunities for nonmotorized and motorized access and experiences on Federal Land".

Wilson River Lester Creek Section

We hiked the Wilson River Lester Creek Section today.
It was cloudy, but clouds were high enough we could see the pinnacles and surrounding forest at viewpoints. Didn't see anyone else on the trail or at the trailheads. The trail was in great shape. No snow.

Re: siouxon creek factoids

Good to hear the forest service has eliminated that road walk to the trailhead!

Dry Creek (Trapper Creek Wilderness)

Hiked Dry Creek today, after bailing on Upper Siouxon due to snow. We wanted to check out more of the area post-Big Hollow Burn. The first signs of the burn were just over 3 miles from the Trapper Creek Trailhead. There were still many live trees in the area. Sometimes the burn only appeared to impa...

Re: Snow Report

Attempted to drive up to the Upper Siouxon Trailhead today, but turned around due to snow at about 2900 ft at the junction of FR 64 and 58. Wishful thinking that the warmer temperatures and rain would have melted the snow. Since we still had 500 ft to ascend, we bailed to hike Dry Creek instead.

Lyle Cherry Orchard

First time at Lyle Cherry Orchard in the fall and it was lovely. The trail now has two loops vs. the out and back hike from my last visit. The Friends of the Gorge website says these Cherry (east) and Lyle (northwest) loops were added in 2019-21. The map on the sign along the trail does not show the...

Field Guide Query

I use the Oregon Hikers field guide to get a list of hikes to consider by area, distance, etc. I'd really like to see the High Point on a list in addition to the elevation gain. I noticed when doing a search and getting a list of hikes there is an "edit query" option in the upper left corner of the ...

Snow Report

Hiked Gales Creek from Bell Camp Road Trailhead on Saturday afternoon. It hailed, rained and then started snowing at ~2500 ft elevation. The snow was sticking.
We also saw scattered patches of snow on the Buck Mountain Loop yesterday at ~1800 ft. But, every scattered.

Siouxon Creek

Hiked the Siouxon Creek trail yesterday from the road closure to the second junction with Horseshoe Ridge, just past Wildcat Falls. The road is gated at the junction of 57 and 5701 and requires walking the 5701 road 0.7 miles to the West Siouxon TH (I think this is signed the Upper Siouxon TH, but t...

Re: South Burnt Lake Trailhead Road Conditions

I believe we were about 1.5 miles from the trailhead where we turned around.

Retired Jerry, I think you are referring to the North Burnt Lake Trailhead by Lost Creek. I drove that road about a week ago. It was in far better shape than the road with the puddle to the South Burnt Lake TH. :(
