Eureka Peak Feb 24, 2024

Headed out on a sunny Saturday to snowshoe up Eurkea Peak. We started from the Trillium Lake snopark, using just microspikes until we arrived at Sherar Burn road, where we switched to snowshoes after post-holing a bit. The snow wasn't very deep but had a crusty top that sometimes broke through when ...

Re: Freeze Dryer Cooperative?

I am interested, in concept, depending on cost, location, etc. I make and dehydrate much of my backpacking food but would prefer freeze-dried as it rehydrates easier (dehydrated peas are the worst). But, I've never used a freeze dryer, so I don't know how difficult it is.

Pepper Mountain (Gorge) 1/27/2023

Hiked up Pepper Mountain for the first time, after looking for a short, close hike to do in the rain. We were lucky and it didn't rain constantly. This hike is likely a one-and-done unless looking for a short hike in the gorge where it is highly unlikely to see anyone else. Pepper Cable.jpg Pepper T...

Re: North Fork Trail 01-23-2024

Nice to see a good winter hike option. It appears this trail is bikeable, so I am surprised the bridges were out.

Mt Talbert (1/20/24)

Hiked Mt Talbert in Portland, the Perimeter Loop and to the Summit , making it 5.3 miles and 1100' gain. We started from the Sunnyside TH. The small parking lot was full and on our return, the road lined with cars. Somewhat surprising as we saw only 2 other people until the very end of our hike. We ...

Re: Shovel Trail, Cabin Railroad, The Way, Li’l Devil, etc. 1-5-24

Thanks for the trip report, it is an interesting area. Last Tuesday we hiked a loop along the Oil Plan / Vacuum Cleaner trail to She-Devil to The Way and back Palmer Mill Road. I was suprised to see those trails and trail names are now on OSM (and so Gaia). We tried to find some other routes we took...

Re: Hidden Falls and Sturgeon Rock (12/28/23)

We started at a forest road pull-out, not an official trailhead.

Re: Pioneer Woman's Grave

Thank you both for the good information. The sign locations are interesting. This is the route we took (Our GPS track and Salmon River don't line up accurately.) I added your GPS locations for the sign and river crossing: BarlowSigns.PNG From the Pioneer Woman's grave, we followed the Barlow Road no...

Pioneer Woman's Grave

Hiked the Pioneer Woman's Grave trail from the Barlow Sno-Park. Nice view of Mt Hood from the trail. View.jpg Near the grave, the Barlow Trail continues north and then crosses Highway 26. We continued to follow the old road north. At the Salmon River the only route we could find turns southwest, par...
