Re: Confused - What is Open or Allowed during Covid Quarantine?

I hiked part of the PCT this past weekend, 12 miles as well, and saw only two groups. One was a group of 4 guys, the other was a family of 4 who camped that night. We saw each other and easily passed by quickly when there was a safe distance between us. On the way home I passed by the start of the P...

Re: Confused - What is Open or Allowed during Covid Quarantine?

There are plenty of other places that are still open - for instance, all state forest lands. Washington just opened up DNR land last week as well. Like you said though, the Gorge trails are closed to all use no matter if it's DNR land. And those areas open outside the Gorge that are open are only f...

Re: Confused - What is Open or Allowed during Covid Quarantine?

Everything seems so backward. It's crazy that on Washougal River road this weekend cars were crammed next to each other to get access to the river. It was at least as crowded as what you would see on a busy weekend at Beacon Rock. At most of the stores I went to maybe 20% of customers had masks on, ...

Re: Washington State Parks opening - Yeah!

List of WA parks opening and not opening May 5 https://parks.state.wa.us/1181/Parks-opening Thanks for the update! Sad that Beacon Rock SP won't be open, but it makes sense. It gets very crowded, even Hamilton Mountain. Still wondering about Table Mountain. I'll probably call next week if I don't f...

Re: Washington State Parks opening - Yeah!

Thanks for finding that info!

Not surprised about Dog and Beacon Rock not being open soon. I'm wondering if Table Mountain might open up this month.

Re: Washington State Parks opening - Yeah!

On the WA Parks site they state that "Some parks may not open immediately due to impacts on rural communities and the potential for crowding." Does anyone know a number we can call to see if a park will be open? I'd hate to drive hours out to see no access.

Re: Any Rules When Backpacking

Thanks everyone for your help - exactly what I was looking for. I always leave no trace and pick up trash when I see it. Sometimes I'll see a nice flat spot that would make a great site to camp, so just wanted to make sure it would be alright to make home there (unless there are any restrictions at ...

Re: Green Point Mountain - 5/12/19

What you are seeing in the first photo is the higher portion of Nick Eaton Ridge. Green Point is hidden by Nick Eaton and not visible from Point 3152. Here is a photo I took earlier this year from the same spot looking at Nick Eaton (right of center.) Wow! Thanks for pointing that out. I always tho...

Any Rules When Backpacking

I've been day hiking the gorge's trails for years now, but wanted to finally backpack under the stars. Are there any particular rules to use when finding a campsite? I see established campsites right off the trail sometimes, but I also see flat areas a hundred feet or so off trail. Can I camp off tr...

Re: Green Point Mountain - 5/12/19

Yeah, I don't think that snow will melt til mid June at this rate. Still, a good workout!

That first photo was taken from the viewpoint from the Gorton Creek trail right after the Ridge Cutoff Trail #437. So from the viewpoint I'm looking southeast at Green Point mountain.
