It is incredibly sad. My money is on a diseased cougar, but I'm certainly no expert. I was surprised it was on such a close-in hike. Hopefully they'll be able to track the cougar down

Sulfur smell at June Lake near Marble Mtn Sno-park
A buddy and I went snowshoeing/camping up to June lake last weekend. We twice went up to the lake and both times we could smell sulfur quite distinctly. Has anyone experienced that up there before?

So that first bear looks like a grizzly... was that up around Ranier? Only time ive ever seen bears in the backcountry was on Rainier. Seen about 6 or 7 over the past few years. I did the Timberline Trail over Labor Day weekend clockwise. I took a screenshot of my strava route. No GPS markers, but you get the idea of where it goes.
