Re: Old Skyline Trail (Lake Branch segment) – 07-02-20

What an awesome abandoned trail adventure! It looks like these segments are in pretty good shape.

Thanks for posting your adventure!

Re: FR 4614 gun city

4614 is one of the "rougher" spots down the Clackamas. It is pretty close to town which probably makes it more attractive and now that the Memaloose road has been closed for a long time, people are finding all sorts of bad places to shoot.

Re: Snow 2020

From what I've seen, it has been a pretty average year overall.

Re: Status of Road 45 near Highway 224?

I haven't personally tried but you might be able to get in from the other side using hillockburn rd? 45 is definitely still closed at 224. You can drive most of the way around from hillockburn, but it has another gate about 3.5 miles up from 224. It is that first 3.5 miles that is closed. That is t...

Re: Status of Road 45 near Highway 224?

After the 36 Pit fire, the first few miles of Road 45 (from its intersection with Highway 224) were closed. On the Mt. Hood National Forest site , though, it says: A four mile section of the road is closed (gated) indefinitely due to hazardous road conditions resulting from the Pit 36 Fire. The clo...

Re: Covid-19

Thanks Jerry - that is a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel - but I know things can change - we do need to keep up the social distancing. If we do, I think the projections may be relatively accurate. We do seem to be in much better shape than New York.

Re: Covid-19

Things might be better by summer, but I don't think that a return to anything resembling normal by summer is very likely. Even in a best case scenario, "normal" is going to be very different from what it was 6 months ago I think. It is interesting to see all the projections, but at the end of the d...

Re: Covid-19

This:
https://covid19.healthdata.org/projections

Shows a projection of just over 93,000 deaths by August 4th. It shows things essentially going to zero by July 1st. I would expect a resurgence come fall, however.

Re: Covid-19

That is a great site. Very interesting projections. It shows (at least for Oregon) that this will be "done" by early July. I hope that projects turns out to be true. I'm sure it will rear its head again in the fall, just like the normal flu, though.

We are all living history right now, folks!

Re: 2019 Snow Level

Bull of the woods wilderness is still snow free. Nothing to 5000' as of 11/23. I'm pretty sure that is going to change in the next couple of days. Whether or not it closes things down for the year is still to be determined. I was up at the lookout (5500') last weekend and there was no snow anywhere...
