Badger Creek Hike

I did a birding hike up Badger Creek yesterday. Thought I would remind everyone how beautiful that ravine is this time of year. Just as an FYI, the drive down FR 48 to Rock Creek is fine, there is a detour up to the Bonney Meadows Rd and back down to avoid the fire area. Fortunately the FS mowed the...

Re: Trailhead Parking

I post my NW Forest Pass on dash at all times, along with the ODFW pass, no mater where I park to hike, do/did it as a habit creating act so I do not forget to show it when I need it. Nothing worse than being 1/2 mile from car and recall not pulling it out of the door pocket.

Re: 2019 Snow Level

Hi:

Thinking of trying FiveMile Butte area this weekend, anyone drive FR 44 yet? How much snow around Bottle Prairie? Mt Hood site has not been updated since 4/1. Snow map still shows 3 feet in area yet Mt Hood site shows tower open.

Re: Hanan Trail

Sorry for late reply, a few bugs at trail head the night I camped, they vanished with a breeze kicking in. I spread on some bug juice and no issues on the hike. A few bites here and there but did not bother me.

Hanan Trail

The Hanan Trail is a historic route Native Americans and the early settlers used to cross through the area that is now on the Fremont Nat Forest. This ancient route follows the Sycan River up to its headwaters then up and over the divide between the Pacific and Great Basin drainages. I started at th...

Re: Nye's Place on Steens Mtn

Yep, I was south of there behind Pueblo Mtn trying to get out near TenCent Meadow. I looked at sky changing and turned back to car. Got back to car with 20 min to spare. Full force of storm skipped Fields but still had some hard rain and strong winds. Burns got clobbered. Awesome sight seeing storm ...

Re: Nye's Place on Steens Mtn

Yep. found a few, Thick-billed subspecies. Slate-colored is other subspecies, I suspect they hang out lower down along streams. No one is sure of the Fox Sparrow subspecies on Steens, very similar birds.
