Question About Matthieu Lakes Area

Wondering if anyone has been out to these lakes sense the fire. Did the area around the lakes burn? Seems to be right on the line of the fire boundary.

Thanks.

Re: Which hike did you not get to do this month

I had overnight permit for Obsidian area Labor day weekend, but it was closed. Was looking forward to spending a couple days around Arrowhead lake again this year.

Re: Three Sisters Loop

I was up at Golden Lake last weekend and the bugs weren't to bad. There were some mosquitoes but only ended up with about 4 bites. Up to the lake there wasn't any snow on the trail. Couple weeks ago I did Matthieu lakes and didn't see any bugs, but there was a nice breeze. I hike up the PCT to the S...

Re: Mathieu Lakes Trail or Marion Lake- First time for wife

Didn't have any issues with bugs. Saw a few mosquitoes in the morning, but nothing that was bothersome. There was some breeze which helped. Didn't get any bites.

Re: Sisters Loop in July

I was out on the PCT from Lava Camp Lake to the Scott Trail cut off and there was very little snow. Gets up to around 6450'. Ran into some thru hikers coming from Ashland and they made it through ok. Not sure what the Green Lakes to Park Meadows area is like but probably where most of the snow is st...

Re: Mathieu Lakes Trail or Marion Lake- First time for wife

I was at S. Matthieu lake last weekend. I hit the trail about 9:30 on Saturday and when I got to the lake all 3 campsites were available. I took site 3 and when I got back from my hike down the PCT around 4:30 the other 2 were full. Saw some other people coming through later in the day and not able ...

Re: bug report - Pamelia lake? elsewhere?

Curious about Pamelia Lake as well. We will be there July 28-30. My guess is though bugs may be a problem. However I was out at S. Matthieu Lake this last weekend for an overnight trip and reports were bugs were bad. Turns out I barely saw any because there was a nice breeze. Didn't get a single bit...

Re: Bear Canisters

You should look into an URSACK if you haven't. They work great because you don't have to do a bear hang with them. Just tie them around a solid tree. I don't use the metal insert just an OPSAK inside.

Re: Jefferson Park Changes 2016

Not sure what all the hate is with a reservation system. As popular as Jefferson Park is it was nice going up there last year knowing your campsite would be available. I realize there is a problem with people not following the rules and camping on the sensitive areas, but this falls on the shoulders...
