Good story Jerry as you are the man. Getting off the trail has consequences around the mountain.

Re: Foxglove Recon 12/9/18

You and Bobcat have great pictures. The painted signs were mainly put up after the '91 Falls Fire and are starting to weather. The ones with the drawings were from the '60's and many were stolen as they had great Devils on them. People do have to look up to see the signs which means many people look...

Re: Angels Rest-Devils Rest Loop 12-6-18

Good to see some of the painted signs survived. They are getting old as most were put up after the '91 Falls Fire.
Great Report,

Re: Foxglove Recon 12/9/18

Thanks for the information on the Foxglove. Was the sign still at the junction heading up to Devils Rest still on the Alder tree? Ah, that wet spot. Actually it had been worked on a few years ago but never lasts as it is so flat. Where are rocks when we need them.

Re: Angels Rest to Multonomah Falls Hike

One of my 10 signs put up after the '91 fire at junctions on the non maintained Foxglove. Use paint on wood instead of routing the letters so they would not be confused as official signs. This was okay with the FS trail workers, Claude, Andy and Pete back then as people would know what way to go at ...

Re: Angels Rest to Multonomah Falls Hike

Most of the Foxglove loop was old logging roads and then the FS plowed parts so that they would not be used. Bus Gibson with the Mazamas and some of us after the '91 Fire cut out 42 logs and signed the junctions so people would not get lost as was happening earlier. Have kept brushing until the Eagl...

Re: Devils Rest from Wahkeena Falls TH

Did you go down the Foxglove or back east to the Wahkeena Trail? If you did the Foxglove, any signs still on the trees as they are needed at the junctions and the FS does not maintain those trails.

Re: zigged where I should have zagged; semi-lost on Zigzag Mtn

One time with a group of high school students heading toward Cast Lake from the Devils Meadow area (used to drive all the way to it) and found my compass had me heading the wrong direction. So checked another compass and sure enough we were going the wrong way. A little snow sure can be handy when y...
