Re: Multhnomah Falls new fees structure
Maybe the people who manage (and use) Benson State Recreation Area don't want their lots filled with MF visitors, making visits to the rec area more of a problem. I think drm is right. They should probably leave Benson Recreation area alone. I did say "If we actually want to let a greater number of...

Re: Mount June the hard way 2024-04-21
The trillium color change with age is surely interesting but they don't all start white. I've seen enough red ones freshly open to be confident in that from direct observation, but it's supported elsewhere . USFS says there are 38 species of trillium found in North America. I will be quite surprised...

Re: Multhnomah Falls new fees structure
“Right now, the congestion in front of Multnomah Falls is a major safety risk — it’s so packed that ambulances can’t get through and people are just stuck in their cars,” Krumpschmidt said. “We’re trying to reduce that by actually doing something. Our free shuttle from Bridal Veil will allow more p...

Re: Red Shorts dies unexpectedly
Sad news indeed. I never had the pleasure of meeting him but I am very appreciative of volunteer trail work and he was a giant in that field. He certainly has my gratitude. In regard to your hope do we have a map of his trails and know those that were favorite to him?

Re: Coyote Wall and other bike trails
Time for civil disobedience. This sounds like a lot more "impact" than anything hikers are doing. More death by bureaucracy? For portions of the trail to be decommissioned, the first step will be to grade the entrenched trails to match the normal grade of the slope to the maximum extent practicable....

Re: Coyote Wall and other bike trails
(I imagine non-wheeled visitors will continue to use the existing path that more or less parallels the cliff — unless they explicitly tell us not to, which would be annoying.) I hiked the Mosier Plateau trail again recently and I was reminded why I don't go often: the obvious place where everyone w...

Re: Elk Meadows and the Argyle Tree
Interesting observation. Thank you.Double Tree wrote: ↑January 24th, 2024, 6:31 pmI was reminded of the argyle tree a few days ago, between ice storms in east county. The pattern in the ice on this tree, is similar. Considering the winds we had, no doubt this tree twisted and rocked, creating the pattern you see.
