Sad news indeed. I never had the pleasure of meeting him but I am very appreciative of volunteer trail work and he was a giant in that field. He certainly has my gratitude. In regard to your hope do we have a map of his trails and know those that were favorite to him?

Time for civil disobedience. This sounds like a lot more "impact" than anything hikers are doing. More death by bureaucracy? For portions of the trail to be decommissioned, the first step will be to grade the entrenched trails to match the normal grade of the slope to the maximum extent practicable....
