Re: What's your trail handle/name and how did you get it?
I got "OneSpeed" on the PCT when some people commented how I seemed to go the same pace, no matter the terrain -- "like a guy on a one-speed bike," is how they put it. I think they were going to call me PaceCar, but that was apparently taken. They left me behind on an uphill, then left me behind on ...

Mt. Hebo Meadow Mystery
April 29, I saw what I first thought was snow in a meadow near Hebo Lake, but it wasn't. It was ... some kind of weird, white layer of smashed dead leaves? Never seen anything like it. So, can somebody explain this one to me? I think it was aliens :-). 2021-04-29 16.53.35.jpg 2021-04-29 16.53.30.jpg...

Mount Hebo Conditions?
Thinking about heading to the coast later this week and wondering about snow, mainly, on Mount Hebo. Doesn't seem there would be any, but I'm paranoid, and it sounds like the place gets a lot of precipitation. Also, anybody done the full traverse lately? How's the trail? Car shuttle is an option for...

Interesting, thanks! I had no idea the sand levels fluctuate so much.

Re: Question About OCT North from Cannon Beach
The Field Guide reads "You can easily walk around Chapman Point, from Chapman Beach to Crescent Beach, at low tide." https://www.oregonhikers.org/field_guide/Chapman_Point Okay, so this I would like to hear more about.I know you're just quoting the FG, so I'm not asking you to explain or defend it....

Re: 2021 Snow Level
Wahkeena-Multnomah is basically clear as of March 15 -- at least, I easily did it without spikes. Snow is really only covering the trail at all under east-facing walls like this going up Wahkeena ..

Re: 2021 Snow Level
Attempted a Multnomah-Wahkeena loop on March 4 and decided to turn around just above the bridge on Larch Mountain Trail. Dealing with icy snow in that canyon was bad enough, but when we imagined the descent through the Wahkeena switchbacks I'm surprised you had problems. I've done that loop every m...
