Description
Whychus Creek and the Deschutes River meet here below the colorful ramparts of Rainbow Ridge. On the Alder Springs Trail, the actual confluence can be accessed via a brushy tunnel, but a little farther down is a great picnic site under ponderosa pines. You can take a dip in the Deschutes here and sunbathe on a rocky knoll that gives views down the canyon. A little farther down the Deschutes are a couple of campsites.
On the east side of the confluence, the Scout Camp Trail reaches the Deschutes, but there is little space here to access the shoreline. It's impossible to cross the river at the confluence, so don't even try!
