Driving Directions
From I-5:
Drive I-5 south and take Exit 228 for Highway 34, Lebanon, and Corvallis.
Turn left after exiting, and follow Highway 34 for 9.1 miles into Lebanon.
Turn right onto Highway 20 (Santiam Highway) for Sweet Home, and go 12.9 miles into Sweet Home.
From the junction of Highway 20 and Highway 228 (for Brownsville and Halsey) in Sweet Home, stay on Highway 20, and continue another 21.9 miles up the South Santiam River.
Pass the Trout Creek Campground, and pull off to the left at the Trout Creek Trailhead.
From Sisters:
Drive Highway 20 west out of Sisters. From the roundabout at the east end of Sisters, keep straight for Eugene and Salem.
Proceed 25.4 miles and, at the junction with Highway 22, turn left to keep on Highways 20 and 126 for Albany and Eugene.
Go 3.4 miles and, at the junction with Highway 126, stay straight on Highway 20.
Follow the Santiam Highway for another 22.8 miles, and pull in to the right at the Trout Creek Trailhead.
Other Notes
This is also the parking area for the Walton Ranch Trail. This trail provides a short climb up handicap accessible switchbacks to a platform deck with views across the highway into a large meadow frequented by elks(see picture above). There is a nice creekside picnic bench about 50 yards up trail.
