South Mattieu Lake

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

South Mattieu Lake, North Sister in the background (Jerry Adams)

Souuth Mattieu is a large pond 2.8 miles South of McKenzie Pass. Surrounded by alpine rocks with a few sparse trees.

There are a few campsites, very exposed if it's bad weather. Less crowded than North Mattieu Lake, but there are fewer campsites. Beyond here, much less crowded. The terain is sparse vegetation with plenty of flat places if you wanted to find a campsite away from the lake.

There is no inlet or outlet stream.
