South Jetty (Yaquina Bay)

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

The Yaquina Bay Bridge from the South Jetty (bobcat)

Description

The South Jetty at the mouth of Yaquina Bay protects the boat channel into the bay, which shelters a large harbor and the NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) Marine Operations Center for the Pacific.

Wildlife is abundant here. Look for California sea lions and harbor seals heading in and out of the bay. In early summer, orcas may be hunting them in the channel. Brown pelicans, cormorants, gulls, phalaropes, and other seabirds can be spotted here also. There's a horse trailhead here and the beach sweeps south for six miles.
