Short Sand Beach

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Short Sand Beach from Short Sand Creek (bobcat)

Description

Cobbled Short Sand Beach fronts the picturesque little bay of Smugglers Cove. To the north, the southern face of the Cape Falcon headland juts out, with Blumenthal Falls spilling directly into the bay. To the left, Short Sand creek enters the bay and the rugged prominence that rears to the high, sheer cliffs of the Devil's Cauldron edges the inlet. When the tide is out, the sandy lower beach is exposed.

Until the park was renamed in 1958 as Oswald West, in honor of the Oregon Governor who decreed that all Oregon beaches were in the public domain, this was Short Sand Beach State Park. This is a popular beach for surfers.
