Driving Directions

Via FR 17 (Pine Mont Drive):

Drive I-84 east and take Exit 64 for Highway 35, White Salmon, and Government Camp. After exiting, turn right on Button Bridge Road for Mt. Hood, Government Camp, and Highway 35.

After 0.3 miles, come to a Stop sign, and keep straight on Highway 35 for Odell, Parkdale, and Mt. Hood.

Drive 10.2 miles, and turn left onto Pine Mont Drive (FR 17). Keep on this road, which alternates between a paved surface and gravel (Watch out for the motorcycles who use the ORV trails in the area).

After 9.9 miles you’ll reach the entrance to Gibson Prairie Horse Camp.

From here, it’s another 1.3 miles to a pullout on the right at Milepost 11 where you can access the Surveyors Ridge Trail #688.

Via FR 44 (Dufur Road):

Drive I-84 east and take Exit 64 for Highway 35, White Salmon, and Government Camp. After exiting, turn right on Button Bridge Road for Mt. Hood, Government Camp, and Highway 35.

After 0.3 miles, come to a Stop sign, and keep straight on Highway 35 for Odell, Parkdale, and Mt. Hood.

Drive 25.3 miles and turn left onto FR 44 for Lookout Mountain, Camp Baldwin, and Dufur.

Drive up for 5.3 miles, and where FR 44 bears sharp right, keep left on FR 17 for the Knebal Springs Campground.

Go 0.5 miles to the junction with FR 1720, and turn left to keep on FR 17.

Drive 4.0 miles on FR 17 (The pavement will turn to gravel after 0.7 miles) and look for a pullout on the left where the Surveyors Ridge Trail almost reaches the road.
