Salmon Mountain Lookout Site

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

View to Mt. Hood from the Salmon Mountain Lookout site (bobcat)

This lookout site is the official end of the Salmon Mountain Trail #787. The lookout itself was constructed in the 1930s and decommissioned in 1962. There are no longer views west from here, but the vista extends north to the Salmon River valley and Mount Hood, east to the South Fork Salmon River valley and south to The Plaza. This is not the high point on the Salmon Mountain ridge, but sits at its north point. Steep xeric meadows on the east slope of ridge host a variety of blooms in mid-summer.
