Rock Fort

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Interpretive panel at the Rock Fort campsite, The Dalles (bobcat)

Description

Lewis and Clark's Corps of Discovery camped here on both their inward (October 1805) and outward (April 1806) journeys on the Columbia River. They took this vantage point on the basalt scablands to make camp as a precaution against attack by local Indians.
