Poker Jim Knoll 5936

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Stone Corral and Turpin lakes from Knoll 5936, Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge (bobcat)
Clustered broomrape (Orobanche fasciculata), Poker Jim Ridge (bobcat)

Description

From this juniper dotted viewpoint, you can look north to the steeply sloping face of Poker Jim Ridge where it extends above the Warner Valley. You’ll also get a magnificent view down to the Warner Lakes. These shallow lakes are the remnant of a single, deeper Pleistocene lake. The large lake below you is Campbell Lake. To its west are Upper Campbell Lake and Flagstaff Lake. North of Campbell Lake are Stone Corral and Turpin lakes. Far to the south are the Rabbit Hills and the outline of Crane Mountain. From the east side of the knoll, you can get your bearings for the cross-country stroll to Petroglyph Lake, the nearest of two shallow lakes in the sagebrush expanse. Beatys Butte is the high point on the eastern horizon.
