Driving Directions
Drive I-84 east to Exit 44 for Cascade Locks and Stevenson. Drive 0.4 miles after exiting the freeway, and turn right for the Bridge of the Gods Toll Bridge and Stevenson.
Drive 0.7 miles, passing by the toll booth and over the Columbia River to the junction with Highway 14.
Go right here for Stevenson and Kennewick. Drive 6.0 miles and turn left at a roundabout onto the Wind River Road for Carson and the Wind River Recreation Area.
Go 14.5 miles, passing through Carson, and make a sharp right where the Wind River Road meets the junction for Government Mineral Springs.
Keep going for another 16.0 miles (the road becomes FR 30) to the junction with Lone Butte Road and keep right here for the Sawtooth Berry Fields.
The road becomes gravel, and in 2.4 miles turn right for the Placid Lake Trail #29.
Drive 0.7 miles to a junction and keep right.
From here, it’s 0.5 miles to a pullout on the left opposite the Placid Lake Trailhead.
