Fees and regulations

  • Northwest Forest Pass (or America the Beautiful Pass) required
  • No facilities: restrooms, picnic areas, campgrounds, visitor center, and interpretive trails are near the Paulina Lake Trailhead
  • Share trails with mountain bikes and horses

Driving Directions

Drive south on Highway 97.

It’s 23.3 miles from the intersection of Highways 97 and 20 in Bend before you make a left turn onto Paulina-East Lake Road for the Newberry Caldera and Paulina and East Lakes.

Drive 11.3 miles to arrive at a welcome station, where you can show your Northwest Forest Pass or pay the fee and pick up information.

Proceed another 1.8 miles, and make a right turn for Paulina Peak on the FR 500 spur road.

Drive 0.7 miles up the slope to pull off on the left or the right to find the Crater Rim Trail.
