Description
This small island in Lake Sacajawea, formerly the Cowlitz Slough, had reverted to blackberry thickets after the bridge connecting it to the shore rotted and collapsed. It was initially developed as a flower garden. In the 1990s, the Weyerhaeuser Company donated the funds to make it a formal Japanese garden. If the torii gate is open, you can take a short tour around the island to visit its Japanese maples and sculpted pines.
