Hoffer Lakes

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

First Hoffer Lake and Lees Peak (bobcat)

The two Hoffer Lakes, nestled below the granite summits of Gunsight Mountain and Angell and Lees Peaks in the Elkhorn Range, used to be a single body of water, but silting over the millennia has produced a swampy meadow between them. Take the trail to the second Hoffer Lake, which with its abrupt granite boundary, is a more scenic spot than the first, smaller, lake. Like Anthony Lake, the shallow lakes were formed by a moraine dam at the lip of a glacial cirque.
