Crater Lake (Wallowas)

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Crater Lake and Krag Peak (bobcat)

Description

Crater Lake was a small cirque lake below Krag Peak before it was dammed across its outlet to Cliff Creek. The diverted waters gush through an overflow tunnel/pipe and cascade down the slope south of the lake to join Kettle Creek, whence they are drawn off to enhance irrigation systems in the farmlands outside the national forest.

There are campsites on both the north and south shores of the lake. A trail circles the lake, and the Cliff Creek Trail bypasses the lake about 250 yards to the east.
