Driving Directions

Drive I-84 east to Exit 64 for Highway 35, White Salmon, and Government Camp.

Turn left on Button Bridge Road after exiting for Bingen and White Salmon, and drive 1.2 miles over the Hood River Bridge, first paying the toll.

Then make a right onto Highway 14E for Bingen and White Salmon. Go 10.9 miles to cross the Klickitat River and turn left onto Highway 142E for Klickitat and Wahkiacus at the town of Lyle.

Head up Highway 142 for 17.5 miles, passing through Pitt and Klickitat, to cross the Klickitat River on a bridge.

From the bridge, it’s another 6.0 miles on a narrower, winding, road to a plateau, where you’ll turn left on the Glenwood Highway for Glenwood and “Wildlife Area.”

Continue 5.5 miles, and make a right turn onto unsigned, unpaved Grayback Mountain Road (there’s a small brown sign saying “Great Washington State Birding Trail – Sun & Sage Loop”).

Drive 0.5 miles on gravel to a fork.

Bear left at the fork, and drive 1/4 mile through a band of oaks. Look on the right for a single car pullout and park.

Fees and Regulations
