Buckmire Slough

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

View down Buckmire Slough from the north bridge (bobcat)

Description

Two bridges cross Buckmire Slough from the trail system at Vancouver Lake to connect with the Reiger Memorial Highway. Across the highway is a tract of the Shillapoo Wildlife Area. A project is underway to breach levees to allow for a more natural wetland around the slough.

Bring binoculars to scan the slough from one of the bridges. Look for ducks, geese, grebes, nutria, muskrats, and herons.
