Browns Island Viewpoint

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Picnic spot at the viewpoint (bobcat)
Showy phlox (Phlox speciosa), Browns Island Viewpoint (bobcat)

This commanding cliff top viewpoint looks east to Wishram and Browns Island, a promontory connected to the mainland before the construction of The Dalles Dam. The river was constricted here at the Tenmile Rapids. Below you will see the Cascade Cliffs Winery and across the river, piled upon the Gorge rimrock, are the Kaser Dunes. The gulch below is the Devil's Pass, an old Indian route that led from the river up to Oak Spring and then the berry fields around Mount Adams.
