Barbara Walker Crossing

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

The Barbara Walker Crossing of Burnside Road, Wildwood Trail (bobcat)

Description

On October 27th, 2019, this new footbridge was officially dedicated. It takes hikers, runners, and their dogs high above Burnside Road, thus avoiding a dangerous crossing of that street. There is no longer any access to the Wildwood Trail from Burnside Road. The footbridge is named after Barbara Walker, a tireless advocate for Portland Parks who passed away in 2014.

The elegant curving footbridge, 178 feet long, was designed by Portland architect Ed Carpenter. The installation was the result of a multi-year campaign by the Portland Parks Foundation.
