Banks Vernonia-Felling’s Wedge Trail Junction

From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

The Felling's Wedge Trail leading off from the Banks Vernonia State Trail (bobcat)

The Felling's Wedge Trail leads down to an alder bottomland and a bridge over Williams Creek. Hikers cannot cross the bridge: trails on the other side are reserved exclusively for mountain bikers.

Near the junction, a narrow road bed, the original alignment of the Hares Canyon Trail, comes down a slope to join the Felling's Wedge Trail.

A "felling wedge" is inserted into a cut and hit repeatedly to split the wood.
