Fees and Regulations

  • Self-issued wilderness permit needed
  • Northwest Forest Pass (or America the Beautiful Pass) required
  • Central Cascades Wilderness Permit for overnight stays required ($6 reservation fee: June 15th - October 15th)
  • Fishing permit needed to fish for people ages 14 and up
  • Highway 242 usually closed from mid-fall through most of spring
  • Vault toilet, picnic table at trailhead

Driving Directions

From Portland, take I-5 south.

At Springfield, take exit 194A, and drive OR 126 east towards Springfield.

Follow 126 48 miles, then take a right on OR 242.

Follow 242 about ten miles to the Alder Springs Campground. Trailhead parking is next to the campground entrance. The trail to Linton Lake is across the road.
