| on sunday afternoon i took a trip with some friends to the rhododendron garden in the outskirts of portland. its a great little hike, about 1 mile at the most, and i dont know if there was any more that i didnt see. mostly a paved wide path, some dirt, but well graded. right now the rhododendrons are perfect. most of them are in bloom, some dead, and some not opened yet, but it was beautiful. they were all around. and there were other flowers too. the trail goes by three man made creeks with waterfalls. the sun was shining directly on the water, so i didnt get any presentable shots of them. here are some pictures;
these are of the rhododendrons, macros
and heres one of the creeks below a falls;
its rather fun, and i think it costs a few dollars, but its worth it. there are plenty of ducks and geese in the ponds, they are tame. some have babies too!
i highly reccomend this for people this week or soon while the rhodys are in full bloom!

| I haven't loaded the photos from the camera yet, but tonight we spent some time in the intermittent rain taking in many of the blooms. I think it will still be prime for a week or so more but this is the time to go for sure! It was quite beautiful, the waterscapes were serene, fowl plentiful (and with babies-especially liked the wood-duck families), and the cost was just right - free.
its at SE 28th and Woodstock and is free on Tuesdays and Wednesdays - otherwise is $3.
I'd second this as a great thing to do in the evening while the blooms are still present. reminded us of the green rhodo tunnels of the southern part of the appalachian trail, almost. (needs more rocks, rhodos, and topography to match it :P )
