Cape Falcon (Oswald West) 8/6/2006

Posted by yma (2006-08-08)

This Sunday I went for a quick jaunt to the Coast for my friend's birthday.
He has never been hiking, so we took a quck hike to Cape Falcon.

It was a great day at the coast.  It was sunny and the temps were great!

The trail to Cape Falcon is 2.5 miles one way, and was nicely graded.
Some ups and downs, but overall pretty flat.  My heels were quite happy about that.
I've realized that I need to take my boots back to REI and look for a non-heel killing variety.

Once we made it to the Cape, the views were stellar.
Lot of people and not enough little ledges for people to sit and look out!
Great spot for lunch.

This hike made me want to do a longer backpacking trip on the OCT.
Has anyone here thru-hiked it, or done a significant portion?

Here are some photos:

Thanks for sharing Amy!  that is my favorite area on the coast...Short Sands beach is just gorgeous.  You should also check out nearby neahkahnie mt.  It's the one you see looking south from Falcon Point.

It's been too long since I've been to the Coast.  I really need to explore the Cape Falcon area more.  My wife and I were at Oswald West a few years ago, but at the time I had no idea how much there is to see there.   We sure enjoyed our walk, but we only experienced a small part of it.  Your photos are great.  Thanks for posting!
