Dan, Kathy and I set out for the gorge on Friday before our dry weather window closed. We went on seven short hikes and the views were great:
Here's a little ten-footer immediately above Cedar Falls (also known as Aldrich Falls)
A side view of the main Cedar Falls:
The view from directly below the falls:
Here's the falls near the start of the Wahclella Falls trail:
Dan's turn to take the same photo as above:
Here's an ephemeral falls along the canyon walls. Some of these were as spectacular as the bigger falls - or more so:
Here's another:
Wahclella Falls:
Eagle Creek Trail: The sun was melting the huge ice formations on the upper canyon walls and big chunks of ice cascading down and across the trail changed our minds about this one. We retreated to the car and headed for the Mt. Defiance trailhead and Starvation Creek Falls.
Starvation Creek Falls:
We crossed back over the Columbia at Cascade Locks and drove up to Stevenson for the next hike. Here's Forty Foot Falls on Rock Creek:
These falls are really neat but hard to get to. That's Dan slightly right of center:
Just a few hundred yards below Forty Foot is the much easier to get to First Falls: This one's about 50 feet and is at the sight of an incredible landslide that occured in Nov. of '06.
All-in-all it was great day for scenery. We managed to hike a total of 6.5 miles and got a nice 1,700 vertical feet for the day.
