Pocket Creek X-C, 12/22/07

Posted by jalepeno (2007-12-30)
Dave and I skied in beautiful, heavy deep powder down to the creek and then up the ridge to the big clear-cut below Bennett Pass. While we were eating lunch, the snow turned to rain and we turned for home.
On the way out, a group of snowshoers were ahead of us breaking their own trail parallel to ours. They had gone off into the woods by the creek. When we returned as we descended the ridge, we met two snowshoers coming up in our ski tracks. I politely explained to them about staying out of the tracks. They said "OK" but when I stopped and looked back after awhile they had returned to going uphill in our tracks.
Why do snowshoers do this? I don't ever ski at Trillium anymore because of the snowshoers messing up the trail.

As I'm not much of a winter person I was totally unaware of this snowshoer vs x-c trail issue. What is it about snowshoeing that messes up a x-c track? I ask as I just purchased a set of snowshoes and plan to go out tomorrow to see if I like it.
