Uploading photos

Posted by RLH (2007-06-28)
Hey all,

Sorry to put this here, but I posted it in the FAQ section and got no responses.

I can't seem to be able to upload images from my gallery to my posts. I'm using a Mac and Safari and the only menu items I seem to have is "compose" "options" "related" and "preview." It looks quite a bit different from the screen shot in the FAQ section.

Any ideas?

Using anything other than Internet Explorer, the only reliable choice I've found is pure html. Community Server, the platform the site is built on, isn't real friendly with other browsers and Safari is particularly unforgiving with many server platforms. I use Firefox on a PC and I've been able to work in html pretty easy. It sounds really difficult, but once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy.

First I switch to the html view.

I usually copy the URL of my first photo then I paste it into an html tag in the form <img src="photo url here">. That usually makes a really long line like <img src="http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j72/stevefromdodge/06-25-07%20Larch%20Mountain%20Crater/10.jpg"> Switching to preview view should show you one photo. Then click compose to switch back to html view.

Then I copy that line and paste in a dozen copies. Another preview will show you a bunch of copies of the same pic.

Next, I edit the links to display all of the photos. Usually the photos I want to use are all in one folder, so I can just edit the file name part of the URL (in my example above "10.jpg", became 1.jpg, 2.jpg, you get the idea. Another preview should show all of your pictures displayed. Now change to the Design View and type in all of your text.

Definitely a pain the first time or two, but one you get the hang of it, it's easier than than fighting the idiosyncrasies of the other methods. Preview is always your friend.

Hope this helps
