I came across a batch of pictures i took on a trip up Yocum Ridge back in 1992. I thought it might be interesting to see what, if any, changes have occured since then. So if anyone has been up there the last couple years and has the 'after' pictures , i'll start with the 'before' set ..
Here's the Sandy River crossing for the Ramona Falls Trail , back then this was the beginning of the hike..
I was lucky and caught Ramona Falls in almost full sunshine..
The Yocum Ridge Trail actually begins off the PCT just past Ramona Falls (of course i went the wrong way for 1/2 mile or so...) It switchbacks in the forest up the ridge and then breaks above Timberline into a string of endless meadows..
The views get better as the trail continues...
If i'm reading my map righ (don't hold me to it) , these are the Sandy and Reid Glacier(s)..
A little close-up of the cliffs..
A look at the glacier-fed falls heading down what i think is the Muddy Fork Canyon..
And the best look from near the end of the main trail, a 'climbers' trail' continues on..
I'd really like to get back up there now that i have some clue what i'm doing out hiking. This particular trip was something i saw in the paper and thought sounded kind of fun. My camera, some water, but no map nor any other supplies. Just the description from the newspaper.. But dumb ideas work out pretty good sometimes... |
