Trillium Snowshoe (yes, another one) Posted by Paul (2006-12-17)

Sorry.
We got up there around 9:30 am, and it was a perffectly clear day and 25 degrees. We heard the sound of helicopters most of the morning, and there was an air hopefulness for the climbers on Hood around the lake.
BTW, this lake was a zoo today. LOTS of people, and lots of dogs to distract Gaius on his first day behind me with shoes and poles. Here are the pics.
You can see one of the two helicopters just to the right of the summit.

Gaius certainly seems happy--I love the one where he has the snow on his nose! It's fun how dogs like to burrow into the snow like that! |

And Grannyhiker, Hysson will have no problem in the snow. He'll work harder, but that should be it. There was about 10-12 inches of the driest powder I've seen in a bit, and Gaius really didn;t have too much of a problem. The deepest he got was up to his belly, but he got along just fine. Gaius doesn't have the biggest feet, either.

Beautiful photos of the frozen lake and Mt. Hood. I was at the Coast all weekend and when I got home earlier this evening, i was really saddened to learn that one of the climbers didn't survive. It's hard to look at such a beautiful scene knowing the life and death drama taking place. I hope the other two climbers are found alive. My heart aches for the families. Patty |

I was there with my 2 friends there at the same time, too. I remember your dog! |
