(Mary Ann was having some computer challenges, so I'm posting her fun trip report here for now)
I joined Julee from Julee's Gorge Tours Saturday for the "Ladies Only" snowshoeing hike. We set out (approximately 18 of us) from Julee's NE Portland home at about 9:30 AM and headed caravan style to Mirror Lake. It was a beautiful day for a snowshoeing outing, absent the rain the forecast had called for. We strapped on our shoes just after crossing the bridge at the trailhead, and after gawking and snapping photos at the trailhead.
After getting our snowshoes secured, the group embarked single file on our hike.
Off we went, 18 gorgeous gals and one rowdy brown lab, on our snowshoeing adventure. We headed up to the lake on a 3 mile out and back hike. The weather was cooperative, the temperature mild, and the snow firmly packed (at least what was left of it, which is far less than was there last week). The scenery did not disappoint.
As we reached the lake, I half expected to see ice skaters on the frozen surface.
We took a short break at the lake to have a snack, enjoy the incredible view, snap photos, and TALK, TALK, TALK ! as only a group of women can truly appreciate.
Most of us continued the hike by looping back around the lake, while a few opted to turn around and head back with Julee. Along the trail, we encountered surprisingly few people; one small group we passed was having a great time sliding down the hill.
I don't know the name of this creek that crosses the trail or even if it has a name, but it sure is beautiful outlined by the white snow.
We waved to Julee and the others as we headed up the trail, conversing and laughing amongst ourselves, this eclectic group of adventure women of various ages, shapes, sizes, and backgrounds. The genuine acceptance and camaraderie combined with the fresh air and adventure was exhilarating. I highly recommend it to those of you ladies who didn't get to partake; Julee's doing it again next weekend (Sat. Dec. 16th)! It was my first time snowshoeing, but I found it to be very easy and really fun. Go for it!
