From Oregon Hikers Field Guide

Description

Zwagg Island, at 5 acres, is one of the larger islands off the Oregon Coast. It is attached to Mill Beach at low tide. The island is named after, Folker Von Der Zwagg, a Dutch hermit who lived here with his dog Sniff at the end of the 19th century.

A name formerly used for the island was Grand Island. It is also sometimes called Zwagg Rock. The island is part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge and the Oregon Islands Wilderness and is thus off-limits to the public.
