Description

Wahtum Lake is fitting as the blue jewel at the headwaters of spectacular Eagle Creek. The lake sits amid ancient forests, high in a glacial cirque on the shoulder of Chinidere Mountain. Camping along the immediate shoreline is only allowed in a few designated areas, but there are many excellent campsites provided in marked spots away from the shoreline. The lake is visited by the Pacific Crest Trail, and is at the nexus of an extensive network of backcountry trails in the Columbia Gorge high country.

Among the many ways to hike to Wahtum Lake, there is also a way to drive to it using a network of paved forest roads. The roads are usually in good condition for regular passenger vehicles. Find driving directions at the Wahtum Lake Trailhead page.
