Driving Directions
From Portland, drive south on I-205 to OR 224. Drive east on 224 past Estacada. Watch for a road called Surface Road. Turn left here and drive 1.1 miles. Turn right on Squaw Mountain Road. Watch carefully for a green forest service gate and drive 3.3 miles to an unmarked turnout on the right. Pull in to this old landing for a log operation, the trail starts in the forest on the left as you enter.
Other Notes
There is a pullout and small gravel road just before the real trailhead. Do not mistake this for the trailhead. The real trail is dirt not gravel.
(In 2001, the Oregon State Legislature called fro the removal of the word "squaw" from all geographic features in the state. In line with this proposal, the Oregon Geographic Names Board has proposed renaming Squaw Creek, Squaw Lakes, Squaw Meadow and Squaw Mountain to Tumala Creek, Tumala Lakes, Tumala Meadow and Tumala Mountain. Clackamas County plans to rename Squaw Mountain Road to Tumala Mountain Road.)
