Description
University Falls is a 60-foot drop that splashes down a wall of basalt on Elliot Creek in the Tillamook State Forest. The network of trails in the area allows you to make it part of a longer hike, but it can also be a short diversion on your way to or from the coast. The falls are best seen during the wet seasons and may be reduced to a trickle in late summer.
The side trail to the falls heads through a stand of red alder. This is an attractive setting either in the fall, when the leaves are turning, or when there is snow on the ground and the stark white trunks of the alders are highlighted against the dark slopes of the mini-canyon.
