Description
At 259 feet, Silver Falls is the second-highest waterfall in Oregon's Coast Range after Munson Creek Falls. Nearby Golden Falls is the third-highest in the Coast Range. Silver Falls spill over a sandstone dome above where a wooden trestle on the old auto stage road crossed Silver Creek.
Golden Falls were named after Dr. C.B. Golden, first Grand Chancellor of the Knights of Pythias of Oregon, and one of the first visitors to the falls. Silver Falls were discovered later and, in the mistaken impression that this was a metallic theme that needed to be reinforced, were so named.
