Description
This is a 30 - 35 yard ford of the North Fork John Day River on the Crane Creek Trail. Ideally, hike up the west bank of the North Fork until you are opposite the valley of Crane Creek as the Crane Creek Trail runs along the north side of that valley. Some may choose to cross at a campsite on the west bank of the North Fork: then you'll have to wade upstream about 100 yards to find the Crane Creek Trail.
Use poles or staffs and wear water shoes (See Tips for Crossing Streams). The water is quite warm by early summer and never more than knee deep. There are campsites on both sides of the river.
