Camping on the Lunch Counter (bobcat)

Description

The Lunch Counter is the overnight camping destination of choice for those doing a summit backpack on Mount Adams. This relatively level bench at the base of Suksdorf Ridge boasts expansive views in all directions except north. There are numerous windbreaks, or rock walls, spread across the area to shelter campers. If temperatures remain above freezing, water can be obtained from the base of the snowfield between Suksdorf Ridge and the Mazama Glacier. This snowfield is also the chosen ascent route for some but usually requires crampons early in the morning; those returning from the summit use it for a quick glissade down to the Lunch Counter from Pikers Peak.

The Lunch Counter can be crowded on balmy summer evenings. Other campsites near the Crescent Glacier and Morrison Creek offer more seclusion.
