On the other hand, if quantity is one leg of success, quality and organization are the other two. The information needs to be accurate and presented to standard ways to best communicate to the wiki readers. To that end, we've done everything we can to ensure a standardized system. We've developed a schema and templates that must be followed for all pages. PortlandHikers.org welcomes your help, but we require that you get to know how things work before you contribute.  This means checking out the Field Guide, learning the basics of MediaWiki and also learning the schema and guidelines that are specific to this wiki.

The Oregon Hikers Field Guide is collaborative effort and has become a labor of love. Our goal is for it to become a great resource for hikers throughout Oregon and southern Washington. This will not be possible without a lot of help from a lot of people, so we're always looking for more people to help out as editors. There are many hikes yet to be covered and many more can be improved with more information. A higher quantity of information will only enhance the site.

Please read the Editing the Field Guide page. It is linked to the four types of pages we generate for each hike; these are:

Once you feel you are ready, you may apply here.

Oregon Hikers Field Guide is built as a collaborative effort by its user community. While we make every effort to fact-check, information found here should be considered anecdotal. You should cross-check against other references before planning a hike. Trail routing and conditions are subject to change. Please contact us if you notice errors on this page.

Hiking is a potentially risky activity, and the entire risk for users of this field guide is assumed by the user, and in no event shall Trailkeepers of Oregon be liable for any injury or damages suffered as a result of relying on content in this field guide. All content posted on the field guide becomes the property of Trailkeepers of Oregon, and may not be used without permission.
