Description
The Green Lakes is an area composed of several lakes that were split apart from a single lake by volcanic sediment. The middle lake is by far the largest. It is a popular backpacking area with many camp sites, but regulations require that backpackers camp only within designated areas. The area has stunning views of South Sister and Broken Top.
There is a route up the South Sister that goes northwest from the middle lake.
The main trail goes to the east of the middle lake. A way trail goes on the west side of the middle lake so you can walk around the lake.
On the south end of the lake, is a confusing junction with the Broken Top Trail. There are two trails that go on either side of the South Green Lake, eventually going southeast towards Broken Top. The Green Lakes Trail south follows the outlet stream of the Green Lakes (Fall Creek).
