Description
The original Columbia River Highway passed very near Cabin Creek Falls and many travelers undoubtedly paused and marveled at the huge fallen mass of basalt that blocks most direct views of the falls. The more recent Interstate 84 is only about 100 feet to the north, but a shield of trees and the hurried mindset of our modern era block the waterfall from today's travelers.
Today, the old highway remains unrestored and acts as a piece of the Mt. Defiance Trail (#413). Now mostly ignored, Cabin Creek Falls still cascades into the small amphitheater created between the cliffs and the huge boulder. Though the traffic noise is louder, the mood is somehow quieter, and almost forgotten.
